What are the possible side effects of flonase?

Q: I take 200 mg of Flonase aqueous nasal spray (containing fluticasone propionate) per day for many years for allergic rhinitis. Could this have an effect on my BP?

A: Flonase is a nasal spray containing a steroid. Because of the way the drug is administered, absorption by the body is negligible. Consequently, use of the nasal spray should not affect your blood pressure. Hypertension has not been reported as an adverse reaction to the medication.
