Q: Are night terrors (or nightmares) associated with high BP?
A: Some drugs that are used to treat hypertension can cause nightmares. This would be considered an adverse reaction. During a nightmare, blood pressure naturally increases as part of the body’s response to frightening situations. With good blood pressure control, this elevation of pressure should be within normal ranges.
My doctor recommended a little powdered ginger before bedtime… I had mentioned that I ate a small yogart at that time so he suggested sprinkling it with the ginger. I’ve also put it on applesauce, or on a half piece of toast with a little margerine and a touch of Splenda (the ginger has a rather unfavorable taste (at least to me). Even the first nite I slept like a babe, and have ever since. When I fail to use the powdered ginger at nite for some reason or other I still have a peaceful sleep… I’ve passed this on to a number of people and it seems to help them also…
