Blood pressure medication causing bad breath.

Q: I have recently observed that I have bad breath. Could this be due to the blood pressure medication I am taking? My GP advised I double the dose of the prescription. I take amlodipine 10 mg per day.

A: Your medicine may be causing your bad breath. This side effect has been reported from amlodipine (Norvasc). Having good oral hygiene may help. Not taking care of your teeth can also lead to bad breath. Be sure to floss and brush your teeth regularly. Don’t forget to brush your tongue and upper palate. See your dentist twice a year for check-ups and cleaning. For more tips on good oral hygiene go to this page at the American Dental Associate site.
