The Argumentative Essay. The Definition of Argumentative Essay

Models for Argumentative Essays

There’s two major models besides this structure given above, to create a classical model. Two other models would be the Toulmin and Rogerian models.

Toulmin model is composed of an introduction with a claim or thesis, followed by presentation of information to support the claim. Those two paragraphs present a disagreement about two scientific fields — digital products and biotechnology. It has also given supporting that is full with names.

Example #2: Boys Here, Girls There: Sure, If Equality’s the target (by Karen Stabiner)

This paragraph by Karen Stabiner presents an objection towards the argument of separation between public schools. It has been fully supported with evidences associated with court case.

Example number 3: The Flight from Conversation (by Sherry Turkle)

“We’ve become familiar with a way that is new of “alone together.” Technology-enabled, we could be with each other, and in addition elsewhere, connected to wherever we should be. You want to customize our lives. You want to move in and away from where we are since the thing we value most is control over where we focus our attention. We have gotten used to the thought of being in a tribe of just one, loyal to your own party.”

This might be an argument by Sherry Turkle, beautifully presented it in the first person plural dialogues. However, it is clear that this will be section of a greater argument rather than the essay.

An essay that is argumentative both sides of a problem. However, it presents one side more positively or meticulously compared to other one, making sure that readers might be swayed to the one the writer intends. The most important purpose of this type of essays is to provide a case before the readers in a convincing manner, showing them the complete picture.
