Standing vs sitting blood pressure.

Q: Could someone explain this? Laying 120/80, sitting 140/100, standing 160/115? I am on my 3rd BP medicine now and the only thing its doing is slowing my heart rate down. What causes this much difference? Thanks

A: The heart is a pump. Blood needs to get to your brain. This is easiest when you are lying down and hardest when you are standing up. It takes the most pressure to move blood to your head in the full upright position.
