Sleep problems and hypertension.

Q: I have systolic hypertension. Take Amdolipene/Benz. My blood pressure aveages 127/43 with a heart rate of 45. I’m 66. Could that cause my inability to fall asleep again after only 4 hours sleep?

A: Difficulty sleeping is one of the most common reasons for a doctor visit. Modern medicine still has a lot to learn about the causes of sleep problems. The drug you are taking is a calcium channel blocker. Difficulty sleeping is not a common side effect of this medication. Discuss your sleep problem with your doctor. You may need additional testing to see if you have a common sleep disorder such as sleep apnea. To learn more about sleep disorders go to this article on WebMD.com
