Pregnancy and strokes.

Q: I would like to know what are the risks of being pregnant after stroke. I am hypertensive and did have a small stroke…thank you.

A: You need to discuss your risk with your doctor. There are other factors to consider in addition to your history of a prior stroke and hypertension.  For women with no history or high blood pressure or stroke, even a normal pregnancy increases their risk of having a stroke.  This risk is even higher for older mothers.  To learn about symptoms of stroke in women go to this article on Stroke.org.
