Pain and blood pressure

Q: I am in rehab after having a knee replacement. I have a lot of scar tissue and with that a lot of pain. My blood pressure is up and I am on medication. Does pain make your blood pressure go up?

A: Pain and certain drugs used to treat pain can cause an increase in blood pressure. However, your blood pressure should be in good enough control not to rise to abnormally high levels during sessions to rehabilitate your knee. Notify your doctor.
