High Blood Pressure and Carotid Artery Disease

Q: I’ve had very high blood pressure for years. It was most likely caused by a malformed left inner carotid artery. I learned about it after it totally closed last march. I’m told there’s nothing that can be done for me. I’m dizzy, off balance, fatigued easily, weird feelings in my head, foggy and experience somewhat unclear thinking. What can I do?

A: It sounds like you were told surgery is not an option for you because your left carotid artery is totally blocked. You should discuss treating your symptoms with your doctor. A few sessions with a physical therapist might help your balance issues. A few sessions with an occupational therapy might help you deal better with your thinking problems. Regular exercise and eating a healthy diet can give you more energy.
