Can vertigo increase your blood pressure?

Q: I was diagnosed with vertigo and at the same time, I started having muscle fatigue in my left arm and leg. Tests were done, MRI, ultrasound of carotid, x-rays, blood work, stress test, and all came back good. Prior to all this, my blood pressure was 112/82 and now it’s averaging 145/83. Do you think I should be on medication and do you have any idea why my blood pressure has spiked since the vertigo onset?

A: It does not sound like the cause of your vertigo has been determined. It is possible that the vertigo is related to your rise in blood pressure. I suggest you discuss this further with your doctor. The current recommendation is to treat blood pressure level of 140/80 or greater.
