#62. Ginger (64 non-drug ways to lower blood pressure)

Plants produce powerful compounds, many of which are natural drugs.  Now some of these are toxins but a fair number of substances are beneficial to health.  Some of these compounds are spices and their medical value has been known and valued for centuries.  Ginger it is thought has effect on calcium channels that causes a blood pressure lowering response.   It also is known to have antiinflammatory properties.  Inflation is known to damage body tissues, and has implicated in heart disease, high blood pressure, and numerous other aliments. Ginger was found to help prevent hardening of the arteries and strokes and the hypothesis  is that it inhibits an enzyme that is believed to cause cells to clot lower stroke risk.  Ginger also causes vagal stimulation and a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate.

Do you suffer pain? There are some indications that Ginger has pain killing abilities, and there are suggestions that elevated pain levels lead to elevated blood pressure levels.   How to eat it?  In cookies, spread on stews, potatoes, sprinkled on salads, use your imagination.

I like to use ginger and believe it a power additional weapon in the fight against high blood pressure.  Try it out.  The suggestion seems to be that one needs about 3 grams of the stuff a day.  I typically don’t use this for weeks at a time, but as a variety method a week now and then doesn’t seem to hurt the blood pressure levels.
